  1. To use the postcode search facility, key in your own postcode or that of the area in which

  3. you are looking for a school. Enter the full postcode if you know it. The search engine will

  5. also operate ΓÇô although less precisely ΓÇô on the basis of the first half of a given postcode.

  7. You can select the number of schools you wish to view (from 10 to 50), the type of 
  8. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  9. school (state secondary, independent secondary, state primary etc) and the gender of 
  10. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  11. entry for each search. Click Search Now and the CD-Rom will generate a list of schools 
  12. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  13. according to your precise specification on the basis of proximity to the postcode you 
  14. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  15. have entered.

  17. If you are unsure of the postcodes in the area in which you are interested, you can use 
  18. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  19. the town search facility. Simply type in the name of the town you are interested in, 
  20. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  21. together with the number of schools you wish to view, the type(s) of school, and the 
  22. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  23. gender of entry. Click Search Now and the CD-Rom will generate a list of schools located 
  24. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  25. in the town or containing the town in it postal address. 
  26. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  27. To use the map, click on the required local area. This will highlight your selection in the 
  28. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  29. local area display in the middle of the screen. You can either click Search Now, which will 
  30. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  31. produce a list of all schools in the area you have defined, or you can refine your search 
  32. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  33. using the school type and gender of entry drop-down menus as above.

  35. For broader geographic searches, click on the region tab on the menu in the centre of 
  36. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  37. the screen. This will offer you a choice of seven English regions, or national searches for 
  38. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  39. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The local areas contained within each search will 
  40. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  41. be highlighted on the map to the right.
  42. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  43. You can click Search Now for a list of all schools in the region you have defined (but be 
  44. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  45. warned, this may be a very large number), or to refine your search you can select the 
  46. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  47. tope of school and the gender of entry that is of interest to you.

  49. Once you have found the schools you are looking for, you can save them to a personal 
  50. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  51. shortlist by clicking on the Save button on the search result or the underlying school 
  52. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  53. profile page.

  55. You can modify your search at any point by clicking on the modify search button to the 
  56. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  57. left of the schools listed on your search results page. This will return you to your original 
  58. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  59. search selection which can then be amended to perform either a completely new search 
  60. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  61. or a refinement of an existing one. Clicking on the search button on the main navigation 
  62. --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
  63. bar will achieve the same effect.
